BATON ROUGE – The LSU volleyball program has received a National Letter of Intent from Katarina Raicevic to continue her career with the Tigers Wednesday as announced by head coach Fran Flory.
Raicevic, a 6-0 outside hitter/right side from Serbia, will join LSU as a freshman for the 2013 season. She has won the “Best Player” award of Belgrade, while her high school and club programs have won five champions of state. As a member of the Serbian National team, she earned a second-place finish at the European Youth Olympic Games.
“We are excited to have Katarina join our LSU volleyball family,” Flory said. “Adding an experienced international player of Katarina’s caliber is something that will enhance our program from many perspectives, and her skill set will fit directly into our system. Offensively, she is extremely versatile and will be able to play on both the outside or right side. Additionally, she is a very bright and intelligent student who will be a very balanced and dedicated student-athlete.”
LSU will conclude its spring season with matches against Kansas State, Texas and Texas A&M at the Lone Star Classic College Showcase held at the Dallas Convention Center Arena.
The Tigers will bring back eight letterwinners in 2013 highlighted by Desiree Elliott, a two-time All-SEC selection. LSU’s seven-year run atop the SEC Western Division came to a close last season. The streak was the second-longest in SEC history only behind Florida’s 14-year atop the SEC Eastern Division from 1995-2008.
