BATON ROUGE – After signing a National Letter of Intent with the LSU Soccer program as one of jewels of its Class of 2012, incoming freshman Jade Kovacevic has been instrumental in helping guide the W-League’s Toronto Lady Lynx to the top of the Central Division standings during the 2012 season.
Kovacevic, who is playing as a defender with the Lady Lynx, was honored this week for her performance with a selection to the W-League’s Team of the Week that was announced Wednesday.
Kovacevic dished out two assists from her position on the back line to lead Toronto to its decisive 3-1 win over Quebec City on Sunday to solidify the team’s position atop the Central Division standings. The Lady Lynx own a 5-2-1 mark as they sit atop the division table with 16 points on the 2012 campaign.
As a veteran of the Canadian Women’s National Team system, Kovacevic joins the program as one of the most highly-recruited players in North America for the Class of 2012.
Kovacevic earned three international caps while representing her country during the 2010 FIFA Under-17 Women’s World Cup while competing in group play against the likes of Brazil, Ghana and Ireland. While preparing for her appearance at the 2010 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup, Kovacevic opened the scoring with the first goal of the match in Canada’s 2-1 win over Japan in friendly competition.
A product of Acton High School in Georgetown, Ontario, Canada, Kovacevic honed her skills with the U-17 Canadian Women’s National Team in 2010 and U-20 Canadian Women’s National Team in 2011. She is expected to play in the midfield with the Tigers during her freshman campaign this fall.
