WICHITA, Kan. – LSU right-hander Nick Goody has been named to the midseason watch list for the eighth annual National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Stopper of the Year Award, given to the top relief pitcher in NCAA Division I baseball.
Goody, a junior from Orlando, Fla., has made a team-high 20 appearances this season for the Tigers, recording a 1-0 mark and a 0.95 ERA in 19 innings with five saves. He has fired 27 strikeouts with only two walks, and opponents are batting just .167 against him.
The SEC leads the way with eight pitchers on the midseason watch list, while the ACC has five pitchers on the list. Eighteen conferences are represented on the list.
The 45-pitcher watch list also includes San Diego’s Michael Wagner, who leads the nation with 18 saves in 22 appearances. He has pitched 35 innings with 31 strikeouts and is 1-1 with a 1.03 ERA.
Among the other most notable nominees are 2011 Stopper of the Year Award winner Corey Knebel of Texas and preseason All-America selections Tony Bryant of Oregon State, Caleb Reed of Mississippi State, Austin Maddox of Florida and Nick Wittgren of Purdue.
