BATON ROUGE – The LSU volleyball program received a National Letter of Intent from Jackie Gerig to continue her career with the Tigers Friday as announced by head coach Fran Flory.
Gerig will join LSU as a junior for the 2012 season after two successful seasons under David Rehr at Blinn College in Texas. Her team is coming off a 38-0 season and a NJCAA Division 1 National Championship.
“We are excited to welcome Jackie into our LSU volleyball family,” Flory said. “She is a proven winner. She brings a wealth of knowledge with her along with a level of maturity that we expect will have a very positive impact on our team and our program. She is a dedicated student-athlete who has worked extremely hard to earn this opportunity. She is the right fit for our program, and we are thankful that we are the right fit for her.
Gerig was a two-time NJCAA All-American as a setter. She notched second-team honors in 2010 followed by a first-team selection during 2011 and secured a pair of NJCAA Setter of the Year awards. Gerig will major in business management at LSU.
LSU has strung together seven consecutive SEC Western Division titles highlighted by the overall league championship in 2009. It’s the second longest streak in SEC history, only behind Florida’s 14-year run on top of the SEC’s Eastern Division from 1995-2008.
The Tigers have garnered a 159-55 record, secured six NCAA Tournament appearances and notched 24 All-SEC selections since 2005.
