Women’s Golf Adds Transfer Hegge to 2011-12 Roster

BATON ROUGE – Katrina Hegge, a two-time All-West Coach Conference first-team golf selection , will transfer from the University of San Francisco to begin playing this fall with the nationally-ranked LSU women’s golf team.

Coach Karen Bahnsen announced the transfer after the compliance office at LSU received and approved Southeastern Conference signee papers.

Hegge, who played for the Dons the past two years, will be eligible immediately under NCAA transfer rules for the sport of women’s golf.

A native of Seattle, averaged 76.73 as a freshman and 76.77 as a sophomore with seven top 10 finishes in her first two years at San Francisco and three top fives including a victory in the Fresno Lexus Classic when she posted a 54-hole score of 216 (73-72-71). She has finished in the top 10 in both WCC championship events she has played in, finishing eighth as a freshman and seven in her sophomore season.

“We are excited to have Katrina join our program here at LSU,” said Bahnsen, whose Lady Tigers posted their highest NCAA Division I Women’s Championship finish of third last month.  “She is going to be a great addition to a program that has shown it can contend for a national championship.”

Prior to attending San Francisco, Hegge won two Washington high school state championships in 2009 and 2006. She shot a course record 67 in the opening round of the 2009 event.  She was named two-time Washington Junior Golf Association Player of the Year. She was runnerup in the 2008 Arizona Silver Belle tournament at the Arizona State Karsten Golf Course, shooting a three-under 213, one stroke behind the eventual medalist.

She has ranked in the national statistics, finishing in the top 50 nationally in among Division I women’s college golfers in par-3 greens in regulation at 68.3 percent and No. 64 in the country in birdies with 54.

Hegge joins fall signee Madelene Sagstrom of Sweden on the roster for the 2011-12 LSU Women’s Golf season.
