Mack, Young on NFCA All-Region Softball Teams

STARKVILLE, Miss. – Eight days after picking up All-SEC accolades, Brittany Mack and Anissa Young represented the No. 20 LSU softball team on the NFCA All-South Region squads Thursday as announced by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association.

Mack garnered a first team selection, while Young picked up a second team honors. It marked the third straight season that the Tigers have had a pitcher selected to the first team.

“This is a phenomenal accomplishment and much-deserved recognition for Brittany and Anissa,” head coach Yvette Girouard said. “They continue to develop as players and will be key factors for the Tigers as we head into postseason play.”

Mack notched an 18-6 mark, a stifling 1.92 ERA and secured 181 strikeouts. All three of those marks are among the SEC’s Top Eight as the junior right-hander claimed three SEC Pitcher of the Week awards in the process.  She has tallied seven or more strikeouts seven times since April 8 and her 372 Ks are seventh-most in program history.

Young headlines LSU with 13 multi-RBI efforts en route to a team-best 41 RBIs as the Tigers have won 23 of 24 games when she notches a RBI this season. She also paces the team with a .286 batting average and 10 home runs. For her career, Young has 26 dingers and is one away from tying Camille Harris and Tara Asbill for fifth all-time in program history.

LSU will make its 13th NCAA Tournament appearance and opens the double elimination NCAA College Station Regional Friday versus Syracuse. First pitch is slated for 4 p.m. at the Aggie Softball Complex.

All of LSU’s postseason games will have live video, live audio and live stats in the Geaux Zone on LSUsports.net. The contests also will be carried on ESPN 104.5 FM in Baton Rouge with Patrick Wright and Kent Lowe calling the action.
