BATON ROUGE – The dates for the “Bengal Gymnastics Half Day Camps” and the “Flying Tiger Gymnastics Camp” held inside the LSU Gymnastics Training Center have been announced.

Six Bengal Half Day camps will be held throughout the summer, and the dates are as follows: June 6-10, June 20-24, June 27-July 1, July 11-15, July 18-22 and July 25-29.

All half day camps will begin at 9 a.m. each day and end at noon, and each half day camp is $100.

Under the direction of LSU Continuing Education and assistant coach Bob Moore, girls and boys from ages three and up will build strength, balance, coordination and self-esteem while learning new skills and improving old ones. A low ratio of instructors to students is kept to help the learning and succession process of each child.

In addition to the gymnastics rotations during the day, all campers will take a supervised “Tiger Tour” around LSU’s campus, including a look inside the Pete Maravich Assembly Center, Tiger Stadium and visits to Mike the Tiger’s Habitat.

“We have a great staff that cares about the kids, and the camps are about having fun,” Moore said. “It’s a total experience because we want the children to learn how to set goals and work together as well as enjoy gymnastics. Every minute of the camp is scheduled and detailed, so it makes for a great time for the campers.”

The Flying Tiger camp runs June 12-15 and is open to children ages 7-17 and beginners to elite level gymnasts. The Flying Tiger camp features an Overnight Camp and a Day Camp, and it is designed to provide expert assistance in all the disciplines required to be an accomplished gymnast. The Overnight Camp costs $540 and the Day Camp is $370.

At the Flying Tiger camp, emphasis is placed on advancing the individual’s skill level and making sure that proper progressions and fundamentals are stressed.

“It is important that the campers get to know what it is like to be on a college campus,” LSU head coach D-D Breaux said. “We strive to have our campers experience the same level of coaching enthusiasm in a fun learning environment that our LSU gymnasts enjoy.”
