LSU swept Tennessee in a three-game conference series over the weekend, extending the Tigers’ home win streak to nine games … LSU has also won nine of its last 11 games overall and seven of its last nine SEC contests … LSU hit a blistering .439 (50-for-114) in the Tennessee series, collected 12 doubles, two triples, and one homer while outscoring the Vols 32-6 … centerfielder Mikie Mahtook led the Tigers to the three-game sweep of Tennessee over the weekend, batting .643 (9-for-14) with one triple, one homer, six RBI, six runs and two stolen bases … Mahtook extended his consecutive games reached-base streak to 66, as he has reached base safely in all 52 games this season and in the final 14 games of last season … Mahtook is hitting .370 on the year with 11 doubles, four triples, 13 homers, 50 RBI, 54 runs and 28 steals .. he has a chance to become the first player since 1974 to lead the SEC in both home runs and stolen bases … he now has 59 career stolen bases, fifth all-time in LSU annals … freshman right-hander Kevin Gausman delivered a brilliant performance on the mound Friday versus Tennessee, recording a complete-game shutout of the Volunteers … Gausman limited Tennessee to just four hits while recording no walks and seven strikeouts … Gausman retired the final 13 Volunteer batters in a row to clinch the win … Gausman’s effort marked the first shutout fired by an LSU pitcher since Louis Coleman blanked Arkansas in Fayetteville on May 2, 2009 … Gausman’s gem was the first shutout by an LSU true freshman since the championship game of the 1993 College World Series when Brett Laxton blanked Wichita State to lift the Tigers to their second national title … sophomore right-hander Alex Edward hit .615 (8-for-13) in the Tennessee series with two doubles and four RBI, while sophomore first baseman Mason Katz batted .500 (7-for-14) with three doubles and seven RBI … freshman right-hander Kurt McCune earned his seventh win of the season with a 7.2-inning effort versus Tennessee on Saturday … McCune limited the Vols to one run on four hits with two walks and two strikeouts.
