BATON ROUGE – LSU’s Anissa Young and ULL’s Ashley Brignac picked up Louisiana Sports Writers Association [LSWA] Softball Hitter and Pitcher of the Week accolades Wednesday as voted upon by the state’s sports information directors.
A junior infielder for the Tigers, Young continued her hot streak at the plate with a 4-for-8 effort sparked by a home run and five RBIs as LSU finished the regular season with a weekend sweep of South Carolina. She secured RBIs during all three games of the series and equaled a career-high with three hits in game two. The Fontana, Calif., native connected for her 10th home run of the season, a two-run shot, in the first inning of the series opener. In the process, Young matched Stephanie Hill for seventh place on the program’s all-time list.
A junior hurler for the Cajuns, Brignac tossed her sixth career no-hitter to fuel ULL to its 10th Sun Belt Regular Season Championship. She notched 13 Ks and was two walks away from a perfect game as the Cajuns defeated ULM, 3-0. She fired another complete-game shutout in the series fueled by seven strikeouts and surrendered just two hits
It’s the fourth weekly award for Brignac and second for Young from the LSWA.
