BATON ROUGE – The dates for the 2011 “Nikki Caldwell Basketball Camps” that will take place at the new LSU Basketball Practice Facility and Pete Maravich Assembly Center this summer have been announced.
The types of camps and dates for the summer are: June 18-20 – Elite/Day Camp (ages 10 to high school), June 24-26 – Team Camp (high school and AAU teams) and July 18-21 – Day Camp (ages 6 to 12).
Caldwell, who was named head coach of the Lady Tigers in April, brings an elite resume to LSU that includes three seasons as head coach of UCLA and six seasons as an assistant coach at Tennessee. She turned the Bruins into a national power and won two national championships as an assistant with the Lady Vols.
Every camper will receive instruction from Coach Caldwell and her entire staff. Campers will also get a “Nikki Caldwell Basketball Camps” t-shirt and basketball. Meals will be provided.
Elite/Day Camp begins with registration at 4 p.m. on June 18 and concludes at 1 p.m. June 20. Perimeter and post groups will work in a compact and comprehensive fashion to develop the fundamentals based on their particular position. Elite/Day Camp costs $250 per camper for those staying overnight and $200 per camper for those commuting.
Team Camp begins with registration at 4 p.m. on June 24 and concludes at 1 p.m. June 26. Certified officials work each game and each team is guaranteed five contests over the three day camp. Teams are placed in brackets by their classification. Team camp registration costs $300.
Day Camp takes place from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. on all camp days. Campers are placed in groups by age and ability. Each day they will receive individual instruction in shooting, ball handling, dribbling, passing, receiving, defense and rebounding. They will also go through individual shooting contests as well as receive a daily lecture. Each day is completed with 5-on-5 games and relay races. Day Camp costs $250 per a participant and lunch is provided daily.
