Golf's Warren Among Premier Assistant Coaches

Warren a Finalist for Golf Assistant of the Year

BATON ROUGE – The Golf Coaches Association of America announced its five finalists for the 2011 Jan Strickland Award on Friday afternoon, and LSU’s Shane Warren is among those under consideration for recognition as the premier assistant coach in all of college golf.

Warren, who was named to the initial list of eight semifinalists a week ago, is now a finalist for this year’s Jan Strickland Award along with Florida’s Steve Bradley, Southern California’s Josh Brewer, Georgia Tech’s Christian Newton and Michigan’s Chris Whitten.

The winner of the 2011 Jan Strickland Award will be announced May 18 as this year’s recipient will have the opportunity to further his professional development by receiving and invitation to the TaylorMade-adidas Golf Kingdom in Carlsbad, Calif.

The Jan Strickland Award is selected by the GCAA and presented by TaylorMade-adidas Golf, which has served as the sponsor of the award since its inception during the 2003 season.

Each year, the Strickland Award seeks to honor the assistant coach for NCAA Division I, II, III, National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics or National Junior College Athletics Association that has excelled in working with their student-athletes in success on the course and in the classroom.
