BATON ROUGE – The No. 21 LSU softball team wraps up the regular season with a three-game set against South Carolina over the weekend at Tiger Park. There are many fun-filled promotions and events in store for the final SEC homestand during the Yvette Girouard era.
The weekend also will feature videos from current players, alumnae and opposing coaches spotlighting Girouard’s impact on college softball throughout her career. The first 50 fans on Saturday and Sunday receive a special t-shirt.
During the entire weekend, collection bins will be around Tiger Park for fans to donate toiletries in aid of the Alabama tornadoes victims. Items needed include toothbrushes, hairbrushes, shampoo, deodorant, sunscreen, bug spray, baby wipes, hand sanitizer, cotton balls, cotton swabs and feminine hygiene products.
For those fans unable to attend Tiger Park this weekend and want to get involved, the University of Alabama Acts of Kindness Fund has been established to support an emergency-assistance program for UA employees and students. Following Friday’s series opener at 6 p.m., the Tigers will recognize and celebrate the careers of Ashley Applegate, Jessica Mouse and Tiffany Shaw as part of the Senior Night festivities.
The first 1,000 fans will receive a commemorative mini poster with a hand-written note from Coach Girouard as they enter the ballpark for Saturday’s game at 3:30 p.m. The Hall of Fame coach also will throw the game’s ceremonial first pitch.
Sunday’s series finale at 1 p.m. marks the final regular season home game of Girouard’s illustrious career. The first 1,000 fans will receive a commemorative coin upon entering the game. A postgame ceremony will take place after the final out to recognize Girouard’s decorated career.
Live audio and live stats for all three games of the series will be available in the Geaux Zone on LSUsports.net in addition to being carried live on ESPN 104.5 FM with Patrick Wright and Kent Lowe calling the action.
