BATON ROUGE — LSU pitcher Kevin Gausman was named Monday as the SEC Freshman of the Week by the league office.
Gausman earned his first career SEC victory with an outstanding effort against Kentucky on Friday. He limited the Wildcats to just one run on two hits in seven innings with three walks and eight strikeouts.
The Kentucky batters posted just an .087 (2-for-23) average against the hard-throwing right-hander from Centennial, Colo. who was the Los Angeles Dodgers’ sixth-round selection in last summer’s MLB Draft.
Gausman is 3-5 this season with a 4.36 ERA and a team-high 62 strikeouts in 66 innings pitched.
