BATON ROUGE – New LSU women’s basketball coach Nikki Caldwell is featured on a city-wide billboard advertising campaign promoting season tickets for the 2011-12 LSU women’s basketball season, the LSU Athletic Department announced on Thursday.

Caldwell, who was named the school’s seventh women’s basketball head coach on April 2, is appearing on seven electronic billboards around the Baton Rouge metropolitan area. The most prominent of the digital displays showcases Caldwell at the Interstate-10 College Drive exit.

Other locations include: Perkins at Capitol Court, Jefferson Highway at Inniswald Road, Bluebonnet Boulevard at Airline Highway, Perkins Road at Kenilworth Parkway, Corporate Drive near College Drive and Essen Lane at Anselmo Lane.

“We want to bring back the excitement in the PMAC with women’s basketball this season,” said LSU assistant athletic director for marketing Craig Pintens. “We have some very loyal season ticket holders and with the current buzz around the program, we are going to increase attendance this season.

“That excitement all starts with Coach Caldwell and the energy she is already bringing to the program. Putting her in front of millions of drivers in the greater Baton Rouge area is just the beginning of our season ticket marketing campaign and a reminder to fans of the enthusiasm returning to the PMAC.”

Caldwell and the Lady Tigers have generated excitement in the Baton Rouge area since her hire. The 38-year-old arrives at LSU after turning UCLA into a national power in three years as the head coach of the Bruins. She was also a key assistant coach on Pat Summitt’s staff for five seasons at Tennessee, and she played for Summitt as well, winning a national championship as both a coach and player.

Caldwell has set the tone for her team’s involvement in the community and what they plan to accomplish on the basketball court.

“We’re going to play together and we’re going to run the basketball at people,” said Caldwell. “We’re going to defend 94 feet, get after people with our trapping and our full court pressure, but most importantly, you’re going to see a team that’s united, a team that’s on a mission and a team that’s hungry.

“Our team is going to get out in the community. They are more than just student-athletes at LSU, they are ambassadors for Baton Rouge and the state.”
