ATHENS, Ga. – LSU Men’s Tennis sophomore Neal Skupski, ranked No. 50 in the nation, will compete in the first round of the NCAA Singles Championships on Wednesday against 43rd ranked Clay Donato of North Carolina at 9 a.m. CT at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex.
Skupski earned the team MVP award and Second-Team All-SEC honors as he recorded the second most singles wins on the team (17), and anchored the Tigers at the No. 1 spot. Skupski peaked at No. 26 in the ITA ranking in January and defeated nine nationally-ranked opponents.
Donato began the season ranked No. 36 and earned 13 singles wins for the season. The senior from Canada was named to the All-ACC team for the third straight year and was ACC Men’s Tennis Player of the Week for the week of Feb 2.
The tournament hosted by the University of Georgia will include a 64-player draw with competition based on the best of three sets. Regular scoring and a 12-point tiebreaker at six games all will be used for all matches.
The winner will advance to round 2 on Thursday to play the winner of the match between Pedro Campos of South Carolina and Dimitar Kutrovski of Texas.
