SAVANNAH, Ga. — LSU women’s golf Alexis Rather advanced through an 18-hole qualifier on Monday to advance to match play in the 90th Women’s Southern Amateur golf championship begin conducted at the Dear Creek Course at the Landings Club.
Rather, a sophomore for the Lady Tigers who redshirted the 2004-05 season, shot a 1-over par 73 to advance to the 32-player championship field which begins match play on Tuesday.
Adrienne Millican, just out of East Carolina University and Karen Ferree, 3-time South Carolina Senior Player of the Year tied for medallist honors with a four-under par 68. Two players finished at 69, Laura Crawford, the sophomore from Wake Forest and Diane Lang, a finalist last month in the Florida State Match Play Championship. Martha Lang of Mandeville, a two-time winner of the event, shot a two-under 70.
Former LSU women’s assistant coach Marci Korengay (now an assistant at South Carolina), shot 74 to qualify. The cut was at 77 with Julie Harrison of Baton Rouge winning the five-way playoff for the last spot.
The finals will be held on Friday. All players not making the 32-player championship division will be flighted and their matches will also begin on Tuesday and end on Friday.
