BATON ROUGE — The LSU baseball program landed a school-record 12 players on the SEC Academic Honor Roll for the second straight season.
LSU players named to the honor roll Friday by the SEC office included: catcher Brad Bass (kinesiology), outfielder Steven Broschofsky (undeclared), pitcher Chase Dardar (general studies), catcher Will Davis (secondary education), pitcher Jason Determann (biology), pitcher Jordan Faircloth (political science), infielder Bryan Harris (kinesiology), pitcher Chris McDougall (kinesiology), pitcher Lane Mestepey (kinesiology), pitcher Brandon Nall (horticulture), outfielder Bruce Sprowl (mass communication) and outfielder Nick Stavinoha (management).
Twelve LSU players were also named to the SEC Academic Honor Roll in 2004. Prior to 2004, LSU’s highest total of SEC Academic Honor Roll members was 10 in 2000.
Determann, Faircloth, Mestepey and Stavinoha each earned their undergraduate degrees last month. Nall received his undergraduate degree in 2004, and he is enrolled in the LSU Graduate School.
Determann, the 2005 SEC Baseball Scholar-Athlete of the Year, posted a 3.781 GPA in biology, and he will begin classes at the LSU Medical School in New Orleans this fall. He was voted to the 2005 ESPN The Magazine second-team Academic All-America squad.
Faircloth, who plans to attend law school, was a recipient of the 2005 SEC Community Service Post-Graduate Scholarship. He has been a volunteer speaker to children at local schools, and he has been active in Habitat for Humanity, building homes for needy families.
