Men’s Golf’s Wells Named to PING All-Region Team

BATON ROUGE — Sophomore Chris Wells continues to earn postseason accolades as he was named a member of the 2005 PING All-Southeast Region team as announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America.

Wells, a native of Mobile, Ala., has also received Second-Team All-SEC and First-Team All-Louisiana honors in recognition of his performance while competing for the LSU men’s golf team in the 2004-05 season. He led the team to one tournament victory and a trip to the NCAA West Regional at Stanford Golf Course in Palo Alto, Calif., last month.

Wells competed in all 12 tournaments for LSU this season and led the Tigers with a 72.83 stroke average in 36 rounds, including 14 rounds of par or better. He also tied for third in the SEC with six top-10 finishes, including a season-best fifth-place finish in the LSU Spring Invitational where he recorded a three-round total of even-par 216.

Each of the nine PING All-Region teams are comprised of 15 golfers and any player ranked in the top 75 nationally in either the Golfstat or the Golfweek/Sagarin rankings. Members of the PING All-Region teams are eligible for PING All-America honors.
