COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Seimone Augustus, Quianna Chaney, Sylvia Fowles and Erica White, members of the LSU Lady Tigers basketball team, have accepted invitations to the 2005 United States Basketball Women’s National Team Trials.
The invitations to the trials, set for May 19-22, were issued by the USA Basketball Women’s Collegiate Committee.
A total of 57 players, including the four Lady Tigers, were invited to compete for roster spots on the USA Women’s U19 World Championship team and the USA World University Games team. Each team will consist of 12 members. The trials will be held at the United States Training Center.
Augustus, the 2004-05 consensus National Collegiate Player of the Year, and Fowles, the 2004-05 Southeastern Conference’s Sixth Women of the Year, are eligible for the World University Games team, while Chaney and White, both freshmen for LSU last season, are eligible for selection on either USA team.
The U19 World Championship team, coached by Duke’s head coach Gail Goestenkors, will compete in Tunisia in July, while the World University Games team, coached by Harvard’s Kathy Delaney-Smith and assisted by LSU’s Pokey Chatman, will compete in Turkey in August.
Augustus was a member of the 2003 USA World Championship for Young Women team that captured the world title. She was named the MVP of the international tournament and was later named the 2003 USA Basketball Female Athlete of the Year.
