BATON ROUGE — Three members of the 10th-ranked LSU women’s golf team were named All-SEC as the league office released the teams on Wednesday.
Sophomore Melissa Eaton picked up All-SEC honors being named to the first team, while freshman Rebecca Kuhn and senior Brooke Shelton were named to the second team.
Eaton, from South Africa, leads the team in stroke average at 75.00 with four top 10 finishes, including fifth place finishes at the SEC/ACC Challenge in Destin and in the SEC Championships in Tunica, Miss., when she posted rounds of 77-73-75 for a 54-hole total of 225.
Kuhn averaged 75.18, second on the team with two top 10 finishes in her first year at LSU. The Miami, Fla., native had her best finish when she came in as the runner-up at the LSU/Cleveland Golf Classic after shooting a two-under par 214 (72-70-72).
Shelton, from Plano, Texas, had two top 10s in the final three tournaments and four for the season, averaging 75.22. Shelton was seventh in the just completed SEC Championships and also was tied for ninth in the LSU/Cleveland Golf Classic.
Todd McCorkle of Georgia was chosen as the SEC Coach of the Year, while Tennessee junior Violeta Retamoza was named the SEC Player and Scholar-Athlete of the Year. She leads the SEC in scoring average at 73.15 strokes per round and has a 3.46 GPA in Finance. SEC Champion Stacy Lewis of Arkansas was named the SEC Freshman of the Year.
