BATON ROUGE — After posting a 3-0 record with three complete-game wins last week, LSU sophomore Emily Turner was named the Southeastern Conference Pitcher of the Week, as announced by the league office on Monday.
The Chula Vista, Calif., native notched all three wins in the Tigers’ first SEC series sweep of the season, allowing only one earned run to Ole Miss in 21 innings for a 0.33 ERA. In addition, she posted her fourth shutout of the season, while averaging eight strikeouts per seven innings.
In the Tigers’ first game against the Rebels, she allowed just three singles and one runner to reach scoring position in the game. She came back and allowed just one run on four hits in the second game. In the third game, she gave up two unearned runs despite allowing just two singles and a walk, while striking out 10.
In her last six appearances, she is 6-0 with a 0.19 ERA in 36 innings with 44 strikeouts for an 8.6 strikeouts per game average. She has led the Tigers into a spot in the SEC Tournament next month as LSU improved from ninth to sixth place in the league standings in the last two weeks.
This is the first SEC Pitcher of the Week honor for Turner in her career. She was previously named the LSWA Louisiana Pitcher of the Week on March 9, 2005.
