Soccer Finishes Spring Season with Win over Marquette

MIAMI, Fla. — The LSU soccer team finished its 2005 spring season in Miami at the 2005 Kicks Against Breast Cancer Tournament Saturday.

The Tigers tied the Miami (Fla.) Hurricanes in their first game 0-0, and beat the Marquette Golden Eagles in their second game on a late second goal, 1-0.

“I thought today was a great conclusion to the spring season,” said LSU soccer head coach Brian Lee. “We were able to come away with a win and a tie against two great programs.”

Stephanie Ford scored the only goal of the tournament for the Tigers with the assist going to Sara Pollock. Valerie Vogler would get the shutout in the Miami game, while Heather Zurburg would get the shutout against Marquette.

“To see us win on a late goal against Marquette was really good,” said Lee. “With all of the close games the girls have had before it is good to know you can win the close ones.”

Lee finished his first spring season with the Tigers 4-1-3. The LSU soccer team will be back in action next fall as it will start its 2005 campaign.
