Softball Signs Sulphur Standout Fallon Fisher

BATON ROUGE — The LSU softball team received a National Letter of Intent from Sulphur High School standout Fallon Fisher, as announced by head coach Yvette Girouard on Friday.

An outstanding all-around athlete from Sulphur, La., Fisher has led the Lady Tornados to back-to-back district titles, falling in the state semi-finals a year ago. She was named the Most Valuable Player of District 3-5A last season has been a member of the Louisiana Class 5A All-State team for two years.

“Fallon caught our eye because of her many outstanding qualities including her athleticism, her demeanor and her versatility. It is an added plus that she is a great student-athlete.”

After playing second base as a freshman, she moved to pitcher as sophomore and has pitched for Sulphur for her final three seasons. In addition, she bats in the clean-up position after hitting .335 a year ago.

“She comes from a diverse background and competes on the rodeo circuit,” said Girouard “She is very talented competitor in that arena. She reminds me of Stephanie Hill and we are excited to add the entire Fallon family to the LSU program.”

In 2004, Fisher was the Senior Girl’s All-Around World Champion at the Nation Little Britches Finals Rodeo. She placed second in the world in breakaway roping and in the top 20 in the world in barrel racing, team roping, pole bending, goat tying and the trail course. Earlier this year, she was named the all-around cowgirl at the Southeast Louisiana High School Rodeo after winning the breakaway roping competition and finishing fifth in barrel racing.

Fisher is the second signee for the Tiger softball team for the 2006 season, following the fall signing of Dani Hofer out of Palm Harbor High School in Palm Harbor, Fla.
