Johnson Ready for WNBA Draft

NEWARK, N.J. — Temeka Johnson, a senior on the 2004-05 LSU Lady Tigers basketball team, will be at the 2005 WNBA draft waiting for her named to be called on Saturday at 11 a.m. CDT.

The draft will be shown live on ESPN2 for the first hour and will be updated on the WNBA website, www.WNBA.com, for the entire three rounds.

Johnson, a 5-3 guard from New Orleans, helped LSU to a 33-3 overall record, a second straight trip to the NCAA Final Four and the program’s first Southeastern Conference regular season title. She was named the Lieberman Award winner as the nation’s top point guard and was a United States Basketball Writers Association first-team All-American after averaging 10.4 points and 7.7 assists per game.

Draft predictions listed on WNBA.com and ESPN.com has Johnson going anywhere from fifth to 11th in the first round.

If Johnson is taken in the first round, she will become the third LSU player chosen by the league in the opening round. Marie Ferdinand was taken with the eighth pick of the 2001 draft by the team now know as a San Antonia Silver Stars and Aiysha Smith was chosen by the Washington Mystics with the seventh pick of the 2003 draft.
