BATON ROUGE — Fresh off a victory in its annual Spring Invitational, the LSU men’s golf team is ranked in the top 30 for the first time this season in the latest Golfstat Men’s rankings released Tuesday.
The Tigers are ranked 30th as they prepare for the Southeastern Conference Men’s Championships at Sea Island Golf Club in Sea Island, Ga., April 15-17.
Seven SEC teams join the Tigers in the top 30, led by third-ranked and defending SEC champion Georgia. The other teams in the top 30 are No. 7 Florida, No. 8 Auburn, No. 17 Kentucky, No. 18 South Carolina, No. 20 Tennessee and No. 22 Alabama.
Playing a difficult schedule this season, the Tigers have an overall record of 15-35 against teams currently ranked in the top 25, and the team’s 15 victories over ranked opponents are tied for sixth in the nation. Oklahoma State and Georgia lead the nation with 19.
UNLV is ranked No. 1 in the poll, followed by Oklahoma State, Georgia, Georgia Tech, New Mexico, Augusta State, Florida, Auburn, Duke and TCU rounding out the top 10.
LSU is looking to improve upon its eighth-place finish in the SEC Championships a year ago when it recorded a three-round total of 35-over 875.
