LOS ANGELES — Seimone Augustus, one of the five finalists for the 2005 Women’s Wooden Award given to the nation’s top player, will be one hand for the live television broadcast of the “John R. Wooden Award Show Presented by TIAA-CREF” on CBS this Saturday at Noon CDT from the Los Angeles Athletic Club.
Augustus, a junior on LSU’s Final Four participant Lady Tigers basketball team, will join Monique Currie of Duke, Ohio State’s Jessica Davenport, Minnesota’s Janel McCarville and Kansas State’s Kendra Wecker in Los Angeles for the award presentation. The winner of the annual Wooden Award will not be announced until the show.
During the 30 minute show on CBS, both the men’s Wooden Award and Women’s Wooden Award winners will be announced and the five member Wooden Award All-America team will be recognized.
Augustus, who has already been named the National Player of the Year by the United States Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) and the Associated Press, and won the State Farm Wade Trophy as the nation’s top player, will receive the Naismith Award in Atlanta on Friday evening before heading to Los Angeles.
Lady Tigers first year head coach Pokey Chatman, who was named the Russell Athletic/WBCA, USBWA and Naismith National Coach of the Year, will receive her Naismith Award on Friday in Atlanta as well.
