BATON ROUGE — LSU has gone through two practices since its first scrimmage of the spring and first-year coach Les Miles likes the progress that his team has made here this week, the third week of spring drills for the squad.
Miles put the Tigers through a 2-hour and 30-minute workout here Thursday, focusing on everything from individual work to special teams to goal line situations. LSU will hold its second scrimmage of the spring on Saturday.
“I liked practice today,” Miles told members of the media following Thursday’s workout. “I’m looking forward to the scrimmage on Saturday.
“I thought in the two practices that we’ve had thus far (this week), we’ve improved. We have added situations to the mix. I think it was a productive way.”
Miles went on to say that he’s been pleased with the consistency and the effort of his squad this week.
Miles said the focus on Saturday’s scrimmage will be that of, “understanding what we’re going to need on offense, defense and special teams to win. It’s a pretty simple recipe: understand the situation you’re in and execute.”
In addition to implementing his system this spring, Miles and his staff, seven of which are in their first year at LSU, have used the 11 practices to develop relationships with the current players.
“I don’t think you can manufacture that (relationships) quickly at all,” Miles said. “It takes time, but I think it’s going well.”
With no practice on Friday, Miles will hold a team meeting during the afternoon before heading to Alex Box Stadium to throw out the first pitch for LSU’s baseball game against South Carolina. First pitch for the LSU-South Carolina baseball game is set for 6:30 p.m.
