Tigers Ranked No. 16 in Latest ITA Poll

BATON ROUGE — The LSU men’s tennis team is back in the top-20 this week at No. 16 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association poll released Tuesday.

The Tigers (14-7, 2-6) split a pair of matches in one of their toughest weekends of the season last week on the road. They lost, 4-3 to No. 4 Ole Miss and came back to beat then No. 14-Mississippi State.

Mississippi State fell just one spot after the loss and Ole Miss remained fourth. Five other SEC teams were included in the top 25. Florida was No. 7 and Georgia was No. 9. Kentucky was ranked No. 19 and Tennessee fell to No. 25. South Carolina entered to top-25 at No. 22.

All of LSU’s conference losses have come to those teams and all but one of those matches was on the road.

New individual rankings were also released. Sophomore Ken Skupski fell back to No. 20 in the singles poll, but junior Mark Growcott leapt 23 places to No. 61 following his win over then No. 3-ranked Catalin Gard of Ole Miss.

In the doubles poll, Growcott and Skupski remained in the top-10 at No. 7. Danny Bryan and Colt Gaston were No. 39 and Jason Hazley and Bryan were No. 54.

LSU plays two home matches this weekend against No. 29 Auburn on Friday and No. 74 Alabama on Sunday.
