Track and Field to Compete at Bulldog Invitational

BATON ROUGE — LSU’s track and field team returns to action Saturday when it travels to Starkville, Miss., for the Bulldog Invitational.

Action from Mississippi State’s W.O. Spencer Stadium will begin at 9 a.m. with the field events. Running events will follow at noon.

The meet will feature just under 10 teams and include conference foe Alabama as well as Louisiana Tech and Southwest Missouri State.

“This is just another opportunity for some of our athletes to improve on their performances,” said LSU head coach Dennis Shaver. “We are leaving a few athletes at home so some others can get the chance to better their marks and qualify for next week’s Texas Relays.”

Tigers Kelly Willie and Bennie Brazell as well as Lady Tiger Kelly Baptiste will all sit out the weekend after posting solid opening efforts in their outdoor debuts a week ago.

The rest of the LSU squad will look to better their marks from last weekend in an effort to qualify for the NCAA Regional Championships as well as next week’s prestigious Texas Relays. The 78th edition of the annual relay event will run April 6-9 at Texas’ Mike A. Myers Stadium.
