BATON ROUGE — Junior Megan Akre is in first place of the heptathlon after day one of the Tiger Relays at the Bernie Moore Track Stadium Thursday.

“We have had some good performances today, and some of our athletes are in a position to do well,” said LSU track and field head coach Dennis Shaver. “Even though we have had some personal bests in some areas the kids still believe that they can do better.”

Akre and Diane Harrison are 1-2 heading into the final three events tomorrow. Akre scored 3192 points finishing first in the 100-meter hurdles (14.35), high jump (5-7 1/4) and the 200-meters (25.39). Harrison was not far behind scoring 3151 points and finishing first in the shot put with a mark of 44-2 3/4.

“Megan and Diane have done a good job so far,” said Shaver. “Megan looked really strong in the 200 meters and the high jump.”

In the Decathlon, Kwami Roberts 22 points behind the leader Bo Simpson of Stephen F. Austin. Roberts scored 3632 points finishing second in both the 100-meters (11.05) and the shot put (45-4 1/4).

Gavin Fleming is in sixth with 3270 points, while Alleyne Lett is in seventh with a score of 3252. Lett was in first after winning the 100-meters (10.88), long jump (23-8 1/4) and shot put (47-7 3/4), but would later no height in the high jump.

The Tigers will be back in action tomorrow as both the decathlon and heptathlon will come to an end. LSU will also compete in the prelims of the 110-meter hurdles and the 100-meter dash, and the distance and sprint medley relays. Tomorrow will also contain all of the high school action as the events will start at 11 a.m.
