Women’s Golfer Devon Day Named Academic All-American

BATON ROUGE — LSU senior golfer Devon Day added to her list of academic accomplishments Thursday when she was named to the Women’s At-Large Academic All-America first team announced by the College Sports Information Directors Association (CoSIDA).

Day, who finished her eligibility this past season, was one of 16 student athletes named to the first team. The At-Large category includes such sports as golf, swimming, gymnastics, tennis, ice hockey, lacrosse, skiing and crew. Day was one of three golfers selected on the first team along with Karen Dennison of Indiana and South Carolina’s Adrienne Gautreaux. Alabama gymnast Stephanie Kite was named the CoSIDA Academic All-America of the Year on the team.

Day, Gautreaux and Kite are the three athletes representing the Southeastern Conference on the first team.

The Greer, S. C. native had earlier won a University Medal at graduate exercises for her perfect 4.0 GPA in mass communications. She has twice won the Wally Pontiff, Jr., Award presented by the Cox Communications Academic Center for Student-Athletes, presented annually to the top student-athletes at LSU.

Last year, Day was named a 2003 second team CoSIDA At-Large Academic All-American.
