Former Tiger Burnett Sets Guyana Record in 800 Meters

PALO ALTO, Calif. — Former Lady Tiger All-American Marian Burnett set a Guyana national record in the 800 meters Friday at Stanford’s Cobb Field and Angell Track.

The Linden native, clocked a PR mark of 1:59.47 in finishing second at the Payton Jordan US Open, the third in a series of six meets on this year’s Golden Spike Tour.

The mark ranks as the second-fastest in the world this season, behind only the United States’ Nicole Teter who won Monday’s race with a world-leading mark of 1:58.83.

Burnett’s time shattered the previous Guyana national record of 2:01.65 she set in April at the Mt. SAC Relays.
