Tigers Add Two More in Late Signing Period

BATON ROUGE — LSU head coach Yvette Girouard and the Southeastern Conference Western Division champion Tiger softball team have received two national letters-of-intent during the signing period that began on April 14.

With the two additions, LSU’s signing class now totals eight, including six players who signed during the early signing period last fall. The newcomers including Megan Jolly from Owensboro, Ky. and local product Heidi Robin from Breaux Bridge.

Jolly, a pitcher from Owensboro Catholic High School, led the Lady Aces to the 2003 Kentucky state championship and a state runner-up finish in 2001. Last season she posted an 18-3 record with a 0.64 earned run average while striking out 261 batters in 143 innings.

The only player from state of Kentucky selected to the NFCA All-Region team, Jolly is a candidate for the title of 2004 Miss Kentucky softball. In addition, she is an honor student and a member of the student council.

“Megan will add depth to the pitching staff next season,” said LSU head coach Yvette Girouard. “She has very good spin on the ball and is a real competitor in the circle. A 4.0 student, she will represent the Tigers admirably on and off the field.”

A pitcher and infielder from Cecilia High School, Robin has led her team to the Louisiana Class 3A state quarterfinals this season, the Lady Bulldogs best showing in the state tournament in school history, with a 24-10 record. The first-team All-State selection earned All-District honors her previous three seasons. Last season she was 19-4 in the circle with six no-hitters while carrying a .396 batting average.

“Heidi will primarily be used as a utility player,” said Girouard. “She has great work ethic and is a very good student who carries a 3.75 grade point average. She is someone who has wanted to be a Tiger since she was a little girl.”

The eight member signing class is the largest for the Tigers since the initial signing class prior to the 1997 season. LSU will bring in two Louisiana products, three from California, and one each from Texas, New Jersey and Kentucky to complete its roster.
