BATON ROUGE — Senior Kristin Schmidt was named the Louisiana Pitcher of the Week, while sophomore Lauren Castle earned Louisiana Hitter of the Week honors, as announced by the Louisiana Sports Writer’s Association on Wednesday.

Castle of LSU, went 7-for-11 (.636) on the week with an RBI, four runs scored and a stolen base as LSU swept a three-game series at Ole Miss. The designated player led the team in hits, runs scored, total bases, batting average, slugging percentage and on-base percentage.

In games two and three against the Rebels, she tied her season high with a pair of three-hit games, going 3-for-4 in both contests. The Lafayette native also knocked in the first run of a 2-1, 10-inning win over Ole Miss and in the same game tied the LSU single-game record with three walks in the first game against the Rebels. Castle now leads the team with a .400 batting average.

Schmidt was 3-0 in the circle against Ole Miss with a complete game shutout, 28 strikeouts and a 0.29 ERA on the week. She became the 23rd pitcher in NCAA history to record 1,000 career strikeouts and pitched all 24 innings of LSU’s games last week. In the series, she allowed only one earned run and two overall runs in three games.

The Houston native threw 165 pitches in the 10-inning win in game one of a doubleheader and 93 pitches in the complete game shutout in the nightcap. In game three, Schmidt threw 90 pitches and did not allow an earned run. She was also named the Southeastern Conference Pitcher of the Week.

This is the third Louisiana Pitcher of the Week honor for Schmidt and the third for the Tigers. For Castle, it was her first Louisiana Hitter of the Week honor and the fifth for LSU this season.
