Schmidt Named SEC Softball Pitcher of the Week

BATON ROUGE — LSU All-American Kristin Schmidt was named the Southeastern Conference Pitcher of the Week, as announced by the league office on Monday.

Schmidt went 3-0 on the week, pitching all three games for the Tigers on the week. She allowed just one earned run in 24 innings for a 0.29 earned run average.

With her fifth strikeout of game one against Ole Miss, the senior from Houston became the 23rd pitcher in NCAA history to record 1,000 career strikeouts. She recorded back-to-back double-figure strikeout performance on the week and currently ranks 21st in NCAA history with 1,023.

In the first game against the Rebels, she threw 165 pitches in a 10-inning win. After allowing a run in the bottom of the third, she allowed only two runners to reach scoring position the remainder of the game. She came back in game two to throw 93 pitches in a complete-game shutout, her 10th of the season.

In game three against Ole Miss, she threw 90 pitches to earn the victory. After an unearned run in the third, she allowed only two batters to reach base the remainder of the game.

After the week, Schmidt moved into fifth place in wins, strikeouts and shutouts in single-season history at LSU. She now boasts a 26-4 season record with 231 strikeouts.

This is the second SEC Pitcher of the Week honor for Schmidt this season, who was previously named USA Softball and National Fastpitch Coaches Association National Player of the Week.
