KENNER, La. — Temeka Johnson, the point guard of the West Regional Champion LSU Lady Tigers basketball team, will be honored by her hometown on Friday with “Temeka Johnson Day.”
The celebration will take place at Kenner’s Bonnabel High School, the school Johnson graduated from in 2000, beginning at 11 a.m. CDT. Kenner mayor Philip Capitano will present Johnson will the key to the city as part of the festivities.
“It means a great deal to me to be honored by my hometown and high school,” Johnson said. “I feel like who I am as a person and much of my success is a product of the people I have been around in my community and my school.”
Johnson helped the Lady Tigers to the program’s first trip to the Final Four this past season by averaging 12.8 points, 4.8 rebounds and a school record 8.3 assists per game. She was named first-team All-Southeastern Conference and was a finalist for the Lieberman Point Guard of the Year Award.
