BATON ROUGE — Seimone Augustus, a sophomore guard for the LSU Lady Tigers basketball team, was named the Player of the Year by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association, while teammates Temeka Johnson and Doneeka Hodges earned All-Louisiana honors, it was released by the media organization on Wednesday.
Augustus, a Kodak All-American, helped the Lady Tigers to the program’s first Final Four berth by averaging 19.4 points and 6.0 rebounds per game. The Baton Rouge native also connected on a school-record 90.1 percent from the free throw line, while hitting 52.8 percent of her field goal attempts. Augustus, who also was a first-team All-Louisiana selection, finished the season by scoring double figures in 26 straight games, including averaging 24.2 points in the five NCAA Tournament games.
Johnson joined Augustus on the first-team All-Louisiana and Hodges was named to the second-team.
Johnson, who broke the NCAA Tournament assist record during LSU’s five games, finished the season averaging 12.8 points, 4.8 rebounds and 8.3 assists. During the season she surpassed LSU’s career, single-season and single-game assists records.
Hodges, the lone senior on LSU’s West Regional Championship team, averaged 13.9 points and 3.7 rebounds, while leading the team with 64 three-point field goals and was second with 113 assists.
This is the second straight year Augustus and Johnson earned first-team All-Louisiana honors. Hodges earned an honor for the third straight year (2002, second-team and 2003, third-team).
LSU finished the season with a 27-8 record and was second in the Southeastern Conference with a 10-4 mark.
