TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — LSU will try to complete a two-win SEC weekend Sunday when they face upset-minded Alabama at 1 p.m.
Alabama (8-9, 2-5 SEC) is ranked 58th in the nation, but they have posted major victories in their last two matches over No. 7 Rice and No. 23 Arkansas.
“I imagine they are feeling a lot better about their team after some close early losses,” LSU head coach Jeff Brown.
The Tigers (12-3, 4-3) took care of No. 45 Auburn on Friday to improve their record to 12-3 overall and 4-3 in the SEC. They are currently second in the SEC Western Division standings.
LSU’s senior captains, Cory Ross and Sebastian Rutka, have paced the Tigers in recent matches. Ross has won nine out of his past ten matches. Rutka earned the clinching win in Friday’s match. In doubles, Ross and Rutka are 5-0 together.
LSU has enjoyed tremendous doubles success recently. They have swept all six doubles contests in their last two matches. In addition to Ross and Rutka, Peter Richman and Ken Skupski have won their past four matches and are ranked 34th in the nation. LSU also features 23rd-ranked Bryan Fisher and Jason Hazley at the No. 1 position.
