BATON ROUGE — Seimone Augustus, a sophomore guard for the LSU Lady Tigers basketball team, was named third-team All-America by the Associated Press media organization, it was announced on Tuesday.
Augustus, a first-team All-Southeastern Conference selection, leads LSU (24-7) into the second-round of the NCAA Tournament against Maryland on Tuesday night. She is averaging 18.7 points and 6.0 rebounds per game to lead the Lady Tigers in both categories. The Baton Rouge native also leads the team in free throw percentage, having connected on a single-season school record 91.1 percent from the line.
This is the second straight season Augustus has been named third-team AP All-American and becomes the first player in LSU history to be named to an AP All- American team twice in a career.
The AP’s first-team included Duke’s Alana Beard, UConn’s Diana Taurasi, Penn State’s Kelly Mazzante, Stanford’s Nicole Powell and Kansas State’s Nicole Ohlde. The second-team included Chandi Jones from Houston, Purdue’s Shereka Wright, Minnesota’s Lindsay Whalen, Texas’ Stacy Stephens and Florida’s Vanessa Hayden.
Augustus was joined on the third-team by Arkansas’ Shameka Christon, Tennessee’s Shyra Ely, Kansas State’s Kendra Wecker and Rutger’s Cappie Pondexter.
