BATON ROUGE — LSU went through its second practice of the spring here on Monday as the Tigers held a two-hour session in short and helmets at the Charles McClendon Practice Facility.

Monday’s focus again was that of fundamentals for the first hour of practice followed by a series of periods on 9-on-7 and 7-on-7 with the offense going against the defense. The Tigers also spent time on special teams, focusing on punt coverage.

The Tigers will take Tuesday off from practice as the team will travel to Washington D.C. for a meeting with President George Bush. The team is expected to depart the Baton Rouge airport at 8 a.m. and arrive in Washington D.C. at noon.

“One of the great memories that I have from when I was a kid was going to Washington D.C. and experiencing our nation’s capitol,” LSU coach Nick Saban said. “We are looking forward to going to the White House and meeting the President. We’re going to try to make a day of it because I’d say that 90 percent of the players on our team have never been to Washington D.C.”

After an hour of sight-seeing at attractions such as the Lincoln Memorial and the Washington Monument, the Tigers are then scheduled to meet President Bush at the White House from 2 to 4 p.m. LSU will wrap up its trip with a visit to the capitol where the team will take a picture as well as meeting with the Louisiana delegation.

The Tigers will return to Baton Rouge on Tuesday night. LSU will practice for the first time in pads on Wednesday afternoon. The Tigers will wrap up their first full week of practice with workouts on Friday and Saturday.
