BATON ROUGE — Former LSU pitcher Jake Tompkins was one of four players that signed a major-league contract with the Philadelphia Phillies.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Tompkins, who returned to LSU after being drafted in the 28th round by the Texas Rangers a year ago, was selected in the 32nd round by Philadelphia.
Tompkins finished with a 10-6 career record and four saves for LSU, helping the Tigers to a 45-22-1 record and College World Series berth this season.
He enjoyed a solid junior season with a 7-1 record and 2.68 earned run average.
Philadelphia also announced the signing of former LSU outfielder Lyle Mouton of Lafayette’s St. Thomas More High School.
Mouton, 34, signed a contract with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre this weekafter being released by the New York Mets’ Triple-A affiliate in Norfolk, Va., where he was hitting .278 with four homers and 24 RBIs in 47 games.
Mouton hit .280 with 22 homers in parts of seven years with the Chicago White Sox, Baltimore Orioles, Milwaukee Brewers and Florida Marlins.
