BATON ROUGE — LSU head track and field coach Pat Henry was named the Mondo Women’s Mideast Region Coach of the Year it was announced Thursday by the United States Track Coaches Association.
Other coaches named Region Coach of the Year included Florida’s Tom Jones in the East, Nebraska’s Gary Pepin in the Midwest and UCLA’s Jeannette Bolden in the West.
Mondo and the USTCA will select the National Coach of the Year Tuesday, June 16, following the NCAA Championships in Sacramento, Calif.
Henry, in his 16th season at the helm of the LSU track and field program, has guided his men’s and women’s program to a combined 24 NCAA national titles. The most recent title came during the 2003 indoor season when his Lady Tigers claimed their 10th NCAA Indoor crown in Fayetteville. For the accomplishment, Henry was named the USTCA’s Women’s Indoor Coach of the Year.
Henry’s Region Coach of the Year honor is the most recent in a long list of coaching accolades since his arrival in Baton Rouge. Henry has been named the National Coach of the Year three times, the SEC Coach of the Year 12 times and the Louisiana Coach of the Year nine times.
