AUSTIN, Texas — LSU shortstop Blair Smith was named to the NCAA All-Region 3 Team on Sunday, as the sophomore hit .375 in the tournament including two home runs against Hawai’i in the Tigers’ 9-4 opening-game victory.

Smith led LSU to an NCAA Tournament record with five home runs in the contest while setting the school record for home runs in a single postseason game. She was joined by Alicia Owen one inning later, as the freshman hit her second of the afternoon in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Although the Tigers were eliminated with consecutive losses to Texas and Arizona State on Friday, Smith finished the tournament 3-for-8 with two runs scored, four RBI, two home runs and the Tigers’ only hit against future Olympian Cat Osterman of Texas.

Smith batted .249 (42 of 169) during the 2003 season as LSU’s everyday starter at shortstop. She scored 32 runs and drove in 27 while compiling 10 doubles, one triple and five home runs for a .408 slugging percentage. She walked more times (27) than the struck out (20) and stole three bases.
