BATON ROUGE — Former LSU standout wide receiver Eddie Kennison is among three men enshrined in the 2003 class of the Independence Bowl Hall of Fame, the bowl foundation announced on Tuesday.
Joining Kennison in the Independence Bowl Hall of Fame Class of 2003 are Ole Miss head coach David Cutcliffe and former Louisville standout Otis Wilson.
Kennison, a member of the LSU football team from 1993-95, earned All-Southeastern Conference honors in 1995 after leading the Tigers to a 7-4-1 overall mark and a berth in the Independence Bowl.
Kennison, who is now a member of the Kansas City Chiefs in the NFL, helped lead the Tigers to a 45-26 win over Michigan State in the 1995 Independence Bowl. Kennison caught five passes for 124 yards, including a 27-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter. Kennison also returned a kickoff 92 yards for a touchdown in the LSU victory. The 92-yard kickoff return for a touchdown still stands as an LSU bowl record.
These new additions join a long list of outstanding men who have been inducted since the Hall’s inception in 1996. Playing greats like Brett Favre, Chad Hennings, Art Monk, Joe Morris, Bruce Smith, and Wesley Walls, and coaching greats Frank Beamer, Fisher DeBerry, Pat Dye and
Ken Hatfield have all participated in the Independence Bowl and are members of its Hall of Honor.
This year’s induction reception is scheduled for Thursday, June 12, 7 p.m., at the Stadium Club in Independence Stadium. Tickets are available for $15 per person.
The annual Hall of Honor Golf Classic will take place Friday, June 13, with morning and afternoon shotgun starts, at Northwood Hills Golf and Country Club. The public is invited to participate in the Golf Classic for $125 per player, which includes entry fee, greens fee, cart fee, golf shirt, and a lunch buffet, as well as soft drinks and beer on the course. Prizes will be awarded for first through third places in each flight, along with closest-to-the-hole and longest drive on designated holes.
