Humphries Named to All-SEC Men’s Golf Team

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — LSU senior men’s golfer John Humphries was named to the 2003 All-Southeastern Conference First Team, it was announced by the league office on Monday.

Humphries, a native of Woodworth, La., was named to the All-SEC team for the second time in his career and became the first LSU golfer to make the first team since Alan Morgan in 2001. Humphries was a member of the second team as a sophomore in 2001.

Florida’s Buddy Alexander was named 2003 SEC Coach of the Year after leading the Gators to the 2003 SEC title, their 13th all-time. Vanderbilt’s Brandt Snedeker was named 2003 SEC Player of the Year and Georgia’s Kevin Kisner was honored as SEC Freshman of the Year.

Humphries was joined on the first team by Florida’s Brett Stegmaier, Georgia’s Kevin Kisner, Florida’s James Vargas, Tennessee’s David Skinns, Vanderbilt’s Brandt Snedeker, South Carolina’s Eirik Johansen, and Andrew Dahl of Arkansas.

“I am very happy for John to receive this honor,” said LSU head coach Greg Jones. “He really deserved to make first team and it is nice for him to get it in his final season, because he has meant so much to our team and program for four years.”

Humphries led LSU with a 72.3 stroke average, 20 rounds under par, six top-10 finishes, and nine top-20 finishes. He was tied with Skinns and Auburn’s Tyler McKeever for the third-most top-10 finishes in the conference. Humphries also won his first-career tournament this season, shooting a 5-under par 211 at the LSU Spring Invitational on March 2 for his initial victory.
