BATON ROUGE — Freshman Camille Harris was named the Hitter of the Week, while junior Kristin Schmidt earned co-Pitcher of the Week honors as announced by the Louisiana Sports Writer’s Association.
The honor was the first of the season for Harris, who unfortunately broke her arm when hit by a pitch during the weekend series at Auburn. Schmidt shared the award with Cheyenne Daries of Centenary. It was the fourth such honor for Schmidt this season.
For the week, Harris was 4-for-7 (.571) with a double, triple and a home run, posting a 1.429 slugging percentage. The Hendersonville, Tenn., native also knocked in five runs while scoring three.
She led the nationally ranked Tigers in batting average, slugging percentage and on-base percentage for the week. In a mid-week series against Southeastern Conference rival Arkansas, she was 2-for-2 in the first game with a double and three RBIs.
Schmidt had a big week for the Tigers, going 5-1 with a 0.48 ERA and three shutouts. She was in on the decision in all of LSU’s games this past week. Schmidt averaged 9.4 strikeouts per seven innings in her six appearances, including her sixth double-figure game with 10 strikeouts in the first game of the Arkansas series.
The junior from Houston threw 12 shutout innings against Auburn before allowing the only run on a solo home run in 17 total innings pitched. In game two of the series, she came in with the game tied 4-4 and did not allow a hit in four innings of relief.
The Tigers close out the regular season this weekend at nationally ranked Florida. LSU will face the Gators in a three-game series beginning with a doubleheader on Saturday at 11 a.m. CT. The series will conclude with a single game on Sunday at 10 a.m. CT. All three games will be broadcast on the LSU Sports Network and on the internet at www.LSUsports.net.
