BATON ROUGE — LSU’s Seimone Augustus and Temeka Johnson of the Lady Tigers basketball team each received third-team All-America honors by different media organizations this past week.
Augustus, a 6-1 freshman guard/forward from Baton Rouge, was named a third-team All-American by Full Court Press, a national women’s basketball publication, and earned a spot on the All-Newcomer team as well.
Johnson, a 5-3 junior guard from New Orleans, was selected as a third-team All-American by www.WOMENSCOLLEGEHOOPS.com, a website devoted entirely to women’s basketball.
The web site also named Augustus to their honorable mention All-America team.
Augustus and Johnson helped the Lady Tigers to one of the best seasons in school history. LSU posted a 30-4 record, won the Southeastern Conference Tournament and made it to the Elite Eight in the NCAA Tournament.
Augustus led the team in scoring with 14.8 points per game and grabbed 5.6 rebounds per outing. She also led the team with an 88.8 free throw percent and connected on over 54 percent of her shots from the floor.
Johnson averaged 10.0 points and 5.9 rebounds per game as the team’s point guard. She was named the Southeastern Conference Tournament MVP and was one of three finalists for the Nancy Lieberman Award given annually to the nation’s best point guard.
