BATON ROUGE — The LSU volleyball team led the Southeastern Conference with 12 players named to the 2002 Academic Honor Roll, it was announced on Thursday.
The 12 players was the most of any school in the league, marking the fourth-consecutive year the Tigers have placed the most on the honor roll.
A total of 86 student-athletes from the league garnered the honors. Ole Miss followed LSU with 10 athletes selected, while Alabama and Florida each had nine representatives. Georgia and Mississippi State followed with eight as Arkansas, Kentucky, South Carolina and Tennessee each had seven. Auburn was represented by two student-athletes.
It was the fourth appearance on the Academic Honor Roll for former Tigers Meghan Bedford, Lyndsey Benson and Lauren Cuyler. Bedford and Benson each completed their playing careers in 2001, while Cuyler completed her eligibility last season.
Meagan Davis, Jennifer Hampton and Katie Kubena each earned the honor for the third-consecutive year. Davis completed her eligibility in 2001, while Hampton and Kubena each finished their playing careers in 2002.
Addie Prewitt earned her second appearances on the honor roll. She completed eligibility in 2001. 2002 sophomores Beth Cowley, Blaise DeRouen, Regan Hood, Kyra Lancon and Rachel Pittman all made the honor roll for the first time.
To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must: 1) have a 3.0 grade point average for either the past year or for their career; 2) be a sophomore or higher in academic classification; and 3) have 24 semester hours countable toward a degree. The 2002 SEC Women’s Volleyball Academic Honor Roll is based on grades from the 2001-02 academic calendar.
