BATON ROUGE — The NCAA bound LSU gymnastics team landed a record 13 student-athletes on the SEC Academic Honor Roll, it was announce today by conference commissioner Mike Slive.
The Tigers’ 13 honorees sets a record for the team, as the most it had previously placed on the academic honor roll was 12 during the 2000 season.
Based on the 2001-2002 academic year, the SEC office recognized a total of 58 gymnasts for their academic accomplishments. Alabama led the conference with 15 athletes being honored, while the Tigers had the second-most student-athletes recognized with 13.
Athletes currently competing for the Tigers that were named to the honor roll include Lindsay Beddow, Brooke Cazeaux, Lauren Companioni, Rachel Franzella, Annie Gagnon, Jade Jenkins and Chelsea Richard.
Those honored that have since graduated or completed their competitive years for LSU include Beth Boudreaux, Adrienne Couret, Marina Degteva, Rebecca Lightsey, Sharene Mamby and Kristin Uransky.
The LSU gymnastics team concludes its season this weekend when it travels to Lincoln, Neb., for the NCAA Championships, April 24-26.
