BATON ROUGE — The LSU Alumni Gold Track meet kicked off Friday in Bernie Moore Stadium with the first events of the men’s decathlon and the women’s heptathlon.
The Lady Tigers’ Megan Akre was outstanding in her heptathlon debut. Akre, a freshman who specializes in the pole vault, leads the rest of the pack by 400 points after the first four events.
“This is Megan Akre’s first time competing in the multi-event, and she has done well,” said LSU head coach Pat Henry. “This is a great atmosphere for that.”
Kwami Roberts leads the men’s race, followed by Edwin Billot of McNeese in second.
Competition resumes tomorrow with the hammer throw at 10:30 a.m. The hurdles of the decathlon start at 1 p.m. and other running events start at 3:15 p.m.
“This is the kind of competition we need,” Henry said. “We are looking forward to it. This kind of competition is key for us right now.”
